NANTWICH has lost a claim to fame.
The town was home to the International Centre for Elim
Pentecostal Church, but that changed in September 2009 when the college
moved to a magnificent, four-storey, new home in Malvern.
The college occupied a
building founded in 1899 as Willaston School. This later became St
Joseph's - a rehabilitation school for under-privileged boys. It was
taken over to become the Elim Pentecostal's national theological college
in recent years, and now it is known as Regents Theological College.
But before they left, Nantwich
Museum sought and received permission to go round the college and take
photographs for its records. The pictures were taken by Nantwich
historian, Andrew Lamberton.
By arrangement with the museum,
and Curator Anne Wheeler, Andrew has sent me a selection of those
pictures. My thanks to all.
There are a number of buildings
on the site, including an indoor baths and The Grove which faces on to
London Road. This was the home of Philip Barker, on whose wishes the
building was founded.
